JPA International: Understanding IVS – The Foundations of Global Valuation Practice
Chairman, JPA International | Trustee, IVSC
Welcome from Jacques Potdevin
Valuation plays an increasingly important role in the global financial ecosystem. Investors, regulators and market participants rely on valuations to inform investment decisions, support financial reporting, and underpin confidence in markets. In this context, the International Valuation Standards (IVS) have become a globally recognised framework for consistent, transparent, and high-quality valuation practice.
As Chairman of JPA International, and in my capacity as a Trustee of the IVSC, I see first-hand the growing relevance of these standards. IVSC works closely with organisations such as IOSCO, the IASB and IFIAR, as well as with the global investment community, to ensure that IVS remain aligned with the needs of modern financial markets.
JPA International is pleased to support the rollout of Understanding IVS: The Foundations of Global Valuation Practice. This course provides a clear and practical introduction to the structure and application of IVS, including insights from members of the IVSC’s standard-setting boards and supporting materials to aid learning. Delivered online and self-paced, it offers a flexible opportunity to deepen your understanding of the standards and how they are applied in real-world scenarios.
Participants who complete the course will receive a certificate from IVSC which can be shared on professional profiles, demonstrating a strong understanding of the standards and their relevance in practice.
Through JPA’s sponsorship, colleagues across our network are able to access the course at a significantly reduced fee of £60. I encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity to engage with the International Valuation Standards and strengthen your knowledge of a framework that continues to grow in importance across global markets.

This interactive course provides a comprehensive introduction to the International Valuation Standards (IVS) — explaining how the standards are structured, how they are developed, and how they are applied across all asset and liability classes. Designed for those who prepare, review, use, or rely on valuations, the course offers a clear grounding in the key principles, requirements, and professional judgements that underpin consistent, transparent, and credible valuation outcomes worldwide.
The course is organised into a series of modules that mirror the structure and composition of IVS itself, allowing you to navigate between chapters and progress through the material at your own pace. Each module explores what the relevant IVS chapter covers, why it exists within the valuation framework, and how its principles are applied in practical, real-world valuation scenarios.
Throughout the programme, you will hear expert insights from leading valuation practitioners and standard setters from around the world, combining technical explanation with professional perspective. Every module concludes with a short knowledge check to reinforce learning. A minimum score of 80% is required to pass each quiz, and you may retake quizzes as needed to achieve the required pass mark.
Downloadable learning materials — including the corresponding chapter of IVS for each module — are available throughout the course, enabling you to align your learning directly with the latest edition of the standards. Your progress is saved automatically, allowing you to leave and return to the course at any time.
On successful completion of the full programme, you will receive a certificate of completion from the IVSC, recognising your engagement with and understanding of the International Valuation Standards.
